Huwentoxin
Huwentoxin is a peptide toxin produced by the Chinese bird spider (Haplopelma schmidti). It blocks neuromuscular transmission by binding to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and also selectively inhibits N-type calcium channels. (T170)

Huwentoxin blocks neuromuscular transmission by binding to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, which affects the release of neurotransmitters from autonomic nerve endings of both cholinergic and adrenergic neuroeffector junctions. It also selectively inhibits N-type calcium channels. (T170)
Free toxin may be removed by opsonization via the reticuloendothelial system (primarily the liver and kidneys) or it may be degraded through cellular internalization via the lysosomes. Lysosomes are membrane-enclosed organelles that contain an array of digestive enzymes, including several proteases.
No indication of carcinogenicity to humans (not listed by IARC).
